So January is quite a dull month. Short of money as we are paying off credit cards and Christmas expenses, weather is very cold and then in this country very wet… and certainly in our house we are trying to be good with cutting back on sugary, fatty snacks and its the 19th and I have not had one glass of wine, which has to be a record…
With this I have had a busy week of looking at healthier after school snack options. Both of my daughters come in starving after school and of course an apple or banana does not appeal. So check out my Banana Flapjacks and Chocolate Flapjacks that contain no refined sugars and are sweetened naturally with dried fruit or heavenly maple syrup! Both freeze well, family friendly and make for great snacks throughout the day when I am running here and there, or need a ‘little something’ with a hot cuppa.
Thursday I went and met with the lovely Jules Serkin from the Scoff & Quaff show (Channel Radio) and Liz one of the two @organicsisters at Riverford, Kent. It was my first visit to Faversham (what a lovely town) and we discussed Riverford, organic veg, dangerous pesticides and deliveries etc… I learnt a lot. I have used other box companies and I am always impressed with Riverford’s fruit and vegetables. They are fresh and high quality and I love the recipe suggestions that come with your box. The taste is so superior to supermarket veg and I love the fact I can be adventurous. As you can gather, I am a huge fan of their boxes and have been enjoying home-made soups, stir frys and baked cabbage!?! I know it doesn’t sound tempting but its actually delicious as an accompaniement. Starting soon I will be vlogging some of the delicious Riverford vegetarian recipes so keep an eye out for those on You Tube.
We have some fantastic FOOD EVENTS for your diary, so far if your children are home over the February half term I still have a few places at our Valentines Cookery Camp on Thursday 16th February 10-3pm at Crockham Hill. Our first ‘hands on’ supper club will start on Wednesday 5th April 7-10pm again Crockham Hill and will continue throughout the year – first Wednesdays of the month – full calendar just being finalised. Then in May on 27th and 28th -Bank holiday weekend I am part of the Tonbridge Food Festival which is going to be amazing and a ‘must visit’ for any foodie!
